No New Thing Under The Sun

 Ecclesiastes 1:9

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be;

and that which is done is that which shall be done:

and there is no new thing under the sun.”

-------------------------------------------------

 A wise man once said,

"when you do what you have always done,

 you will get what you always got."

 Solomon was very wise in his perception

 regarding the journey of man.

Every young man starts out thinking he is invincible,

when in reality he is naive.

From the cradle to the grave, we have many things to learn.

One good habit to practice  is

to stop, look, listen, and think then act.

----------------------------------------------------------

Proverbs 7:1

A good name is better than precious ointment;

and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Proverbs 12:1-8

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,

while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh,

when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

While the sun, or the light, or the moon,

or the stars, be not darkened,

nor the clouds return after the rain:

In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble,

and the strong men shall bow themselves,

and the grinders cease because they are few,

and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

And the doors shall be shut in the streets,

when the sound of the grinding is low,

and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird,

and all the daughters of musick

shall be brought low;

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high,

and fears shall be in the way,

and the almond tree shall flourish,

and the grasshopper shall be a burden, a

nd desire shall fail:

because man goeth to his long home,

and the mourners go about the streets:

Or ever the silver cord be loosed,

or the golden bowl be broken,

or the pitcher be broken at the fountain,

or the wheel broken at the cistern.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:

and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Vanity of vanities,

saith the preacher; all is vanity.

----------------------------------------------------------

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God, and keep his commandments:

for this is the whole duty of man.

For God shall bring every work into judgment,

with every secret thing,

whether it be good,

or whether it be evil.

---------------------------------------------------

God gave us the ability to choose.
It's time to make "good choices."

Life

A Psalm of Life

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What The Heart Of The Young Man

Said To The Psalmist.

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,

   Life is but an empty dream!

For the soul is dead that slumbers,

   And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!

   And the grave is not its goal;

Dust thou art, to dust returnest,

   Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,

   Is our destined end or way;

But to act, that each to-morrow

   Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,

   And our hearts, though stout and brave,

Still, like muffled drums, are beating

   Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,

   In the bivouac of Life,

Be not like dumb, driven cattle!

   Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!

   Let the dead Past bury its dead!

Act,— act in the living Present!

   Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us

   We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

   Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,

   Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,

A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,

   Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,

   With a heart for any fate;

Still achieving, still pursuing,

   Learn to labor and to wait.

Running in the Dark

By Roger Poe

He ran through the darkness of life

On a course, unknown, forbidden, full of strife;

Not knowing who to trust or who to call friend;

Not quite sure where it all would end.

As he ran blindly, into the haze,

He found nothing certain to accept his gaze.

He fled for survival like a struggling fawn.

He fled from the prison of being a pawn.

The course he chose had broken the code.

He sat in confinement crushed by the load.

He carried the weight of the world on his back,

Searching in vain to get back on track.

“These children are man's," the ancient one said,

"The boy is ignorance beware him in dread."

Must we accept things just as they are?

Or can they be changed before going too far?

We can be beacons to light up the dark.

We can bring safety just like the ark.

And when a young one is running in fright,

We can show them an end to their night.

The Bridge Builder

By: Will Allen Dromgoole

An old man going a lone highway,

Came, at the evening cold and gray,

To a chasm vast and deep and wide.

Through which was flowing a sullen tide

The old man crossed in the twilight dim,

The sullen stream had no fear for him;

But he turned when safe on the other side

And built a bridge to span the tide.

“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,

“You are wasting your strength with building here;

Your journey will end with the ending day,

You never again will pass this way;

You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide,

Why build this bridge at evening tide?”

The builder lifted his old gray head;

“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,

“There followed after me today,

A youth whose feet must pass this way.

This chasm that has been as naught to me

To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;

He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;

Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”

Wise or Foolish

Wise or Foolish

Matthew 7:13-14,21-27

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

[14] Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

[24] Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

[25] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

[26] And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

[27] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Mark 16:15-16

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,

and preach the gospel to every creature.

He that believeth

and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not

shall be damned.

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the
 name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world.

Last Sermon Before Eternity

Last Sermon Before Eternity

Intro:  James 4:13-17   Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Hebrews 9:27   And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

What I would tell you:

  1. I would tell you that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

  1. I would tell you that without Jesus you are lost and separated from God. 2 Thess. 1:7-9    And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

  1. I would tell you that life without Christ is hopeless. Eph 2:12-13   That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

         13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made

               nigh by the blood of Christ.

  1. I would tell you that Jesus loves you. John 3:16

  2. I would tell you that you are an enemy of God. Romans 5:6   For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

  1. I would tell you that God loves you anyway. Romans 5:8   But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  1. I would tell you about the greatest commandment.

Matt 22:37-40     Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

  1. I would tell you that you must obey Christ if you love Him.                    John 15:12-14     This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

  1. I would tell you that without obedience you cannot be saved.                         Matt. 7:21-23  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

  1.  I would tell you about the importance of faith. Heb 11:6     But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.        Rom. 10:17

  2.  I would  tell you the story of Jesus as Philip did for the Ethiopian eunuch. Acts 8:35-36    Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

  1.  I would implore you to repent of your sins as Peter did on Pentecost. Acts 2:38  Acts 3:19    Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

  2.  I would tell you of your urgent need. 2 Corinthians 6:2   (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

  3.  I would instruct you to confess the name of Jesus as Philip did the eunuch.  Acts 8:35-38   Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

  4.  I would command you to be baptized as Peter commanded the household of Cornelius. Acts 10:48   And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

  5.  You would be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as Jesus commanded.  Matthew 28:18-20     And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

  6.  I would instruct you to be faithful unto death as Jesus said in        Rev. 2:10    Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
